It Started With An Unsold Cabinet -WBC 2015
When my friend Ronda and I closed our little space in
Boulder City, I had a leftover cabinet that did not sell.
I parked it in the garage and there it sat for a few months.
I had a painting project that I worked on out there
and in the process I used the cabinet to hold supplies.
The lightbulb flickered and
A garage studio was born!
A few years back I held a class out here,
and draped some of the walls
and ceiling with tulle and canvas to hide all
the storage and unpainted walls.
Gosh girls do you remember
how much fun that day was?
2011
Normally I held classes running
down the center of my living room,
and that worked too.
2013
I have not taught classes for several years now
but.....
since I had the canvas, the space and the time,
I figured go for it.
Determined to set it up
with no expense,
I began a couple weeks ago.
It can be set up in two ways.
A small half garage space to use
just for me that stays up,
and then a larger open space for classes,
that knocks down, so I can park the car inside.
I painted some old dirty shutters from the yard,
fixed up a free dresser,
and utilized stuff from other rooms.
stackable chairs ready for students
and folding tables wait for classes,
this small one is what I use.
The draping is cheaply and easily done.
Fish style hooks into ceiling studs.
Either clip rings to fabric or sew on loops
and shirr onto painted PVC pipe.
Now you can upscale if you want
and use real piping and finished curtains etc but
remember this was a "no additional cost" plan for me.
sewn on jute loops done last time
added more drapes for larger area
using clip rings this time
I painted the ceiling
and walls a soft blue,
added a hanging, plug in, drum light,
and sparkle canvas stars from a failed
project many moons a go.
(see the garage door apparatus?)
This cart is getting set up for classes coming soon.
I provide all supplies at my Gatherings,
one of my favorite parts to teaching!
I bought nothing new, just repurposed.
Still a work in progress.
I can't show you any more just now
because I want the students to be surprised.
The big perk?
You just unclip the fabric, fold and store it,
and your garage returns to this:
(Well, if you let me organize it for you hehe)
Meanwhile I still do most of my studio
work here.
See my entire upstairs studio here
and thanks to our host today
I was so fortunate to
have my studio be in
Where Women Create
and in Jo's Book of Organization
and here is that story.
Thank you Karen
for all the joy in
joining your party.
A huge welcome to new visitors!
Stay tuned for more looks at the evolving
garage studio and
the next Gathering event.
Now go visit all the other fabulous spaces here
